To meet the growing demand for ecological alternatives to leather, Panama Trimmings presents Viridis®, the innovative organic-based alternative to leather obtained from corn, wheat and viscose.
Viridis® was born from the desire of Panama Trimmings to innovate and experiment with new materials for the future. In fact, it is common practice to call any material that is not of animal origin sustainable, but it is not necessarily true that materials that do not contain substances of animal origin are eco-friendly.
The name “viridis” has Latin origin and literally means green, evoking the plant-based composition of the material. In a figurative sense, however, the term “viridis” indicates strength and vigor, representing the company’s continuous search for innovation.
Viridis® was developed to meet the growing demand for ecological alternatives to leather. Viridis® is an innovative organic-based material, made from corn, wheat and viscose, reaching 69% organic content, as demonstrated and certified by the United States Department of Agriculture. To the touch, this 100% animal free material is soft, and the appearance is very similar to real leather. Initially developed to meet the demands of sustainable clothing labels, Viridis® is now recognized as a raw material to produce accessories such as bags, shoes, belts and over time has gained notoriety in other sectors as well. Given the multiple uses of the material, Viridis® has been OEKO-TEX certified, guaranteeing the health of consumers. As shown in the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) report, the production technology, developed specifically for Viridis®, uses biobased raw materials that have a very limited environmental impact compared to traditional ones. New finishes and special treatments are constantly added, and a wide choice of colors will satisfy even the most critical of experts.
