Global Ribbons will be providing lanyards at Packaging Première & PCD Milan 2024 made of Tencel®, an ecological and biodegradable fibre
Tencel®, or lyocell, is made from cellulose derived from the dissolved pulp of fast-growing trees such as eucalyptus and beech trees. Thanks to Tencel’s manufacturing process, which uses trees from certified sustainable plantations, 99.5% of the chemicals are recycled in a closed system. For this reason, Tencel® has received the European Award for the Environment from the European Union.
Tencel in a few figures
– a 100% cellulosic man-made ecological fibre (created from wood pulp)
– Tencel requires very little water during its manufacture, unlike the intensive irrigation system that cotton needs to grow (5,000 litres of water to produce 1kg of cotton, less than 1,000 litres for tencel).
– Tencel produces 10 times more material than cotton, per hectare cultivated
– The non-toxic solvent used to transform tencel fibre into fabric is 99.5% recovered.
– Like cotton, tencel is soft and smooth, and holds up well after handling.
